The company Colossal Biosciences announced yesterday that it plans to resurrect and “rewild” the dodo bird, which reportedly owed its extinction to human interference on its native island of Mauritius.
The team is working on a “proxy” version of the famous flightless bird, which means it would be a species with edited DNA instead of an exact dodo clone. This is the same company that has set its sights on “de-extincting” the wooly mammoth.
