Julia Michaels On Losing Her Voice After iHeartVillage Set: I Gave So Much

Julia Michaels brought a string of hits that she wrote for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez to the stage during the Daytime Village Presented by Capital One at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday afternoon (September 23). Unfortunately, the pop star's devoted presence came with a major consequence, considering she lost her voice after the set.

Later that day, Michaels took to Night 1 of the star-studded music festival and told Billboard that she actually couldn't talk too much. "It's pretty gone, but it's fine," she joked backstage of the T-Mobile Arena. "I gave so much of myself on stage and I'm so happy. If there's a way to lose my voice, that's the best way."

Elsewhere in the interview, the pop maestro spoke about balancing all aspects of being a pop star as she completes her breakout year. "Writing is my first love. I will always be a songwriter," she said. "It's getting harder and harder to be able to do that, traveling and all of that stuff. But if that means that I just solely have to write for myself, I’m still writing, and I’m still connecting with people, no matter what I do."

Surprisingly, one project you won't find Michaels on is Gomez's forthcoming LP. "You know, actually, I don't think I am," she told the host. "Sometimes things just happen."
