ARMY VET TURNS RECYCLED CHRISTMAS TREES INTO FREE CANES

For years, Army veteran Jamie Willis was having trouble returning to a healthy life back home after suffering an injury during Operation Desert Storm.

He felt lost and without purpose – until he started hand-crafting canes for other disabled vets like himself.

Jamie accepts donations of recycled Christmas trees and then gets to work, stripping the trees of branches with a chainsaw and drying the wood for about six months. He then sands the wood, turning it into a unique and usable cane.

This project has not only helped Jamie connect with and help other veterans, he says it has also improved his outlook about humanity and has inspired him to help as many other vets as he can. (KSWO-TV)
