James Gunn Fired From “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” Over Tweets

James Gunn has been fired as director of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” after a series of offensive tweets joking about pedophilia and rape resurfaced online. Alan Horn, chairman of Disney, the studio behind the franchise, made the announcement during San Diego Comic-Con, saying that the tweets were “indefensible” and out of line with “the studio’s values.”

Gunn commented on the firing, noting his regrets about his past behavior on Twitter, which he had previously apologized for in 2011. Stars of the “Galaxy” film responded to the news with support for Gunn. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the films, tweeted “He’s made mistakes. We all have. I’m NOT ok with what’s happening to him.” Gunn’s own brother, Sean Gunn, who played roles in the first two films, also tweeted his support in a lengthy thread. He writes, “I hope it goes without saying that I love and support my brother James,” and explaining that while he worries about his brother’s “edge,” he recognizes his gift of storytelling as a director.

And fans seem to be upset too. Apparently, there’s now a petition to get Gunn rehired as director of the film. More than 125,000 people have already signed it.

Marvel Offers 'Infinity War' Grief Counseling at Comic-Con

Marvel made sure to offer Avengers fans a place to talk about their feelings at San Diego Comic Con last weekend. There was an Infinity War grief counseling booth where people could put on a name tag, grab a donut and sit down with a few other people still dealing with the devastation of the movie's ending. There was a "counselor" who asked questions about the shocking last moments of the film. In the end, you could go hug the Hulk.

This is a clever ploy to get people to watch the movie again at home. Avengers: Infinity War is available digitally starting July 31st and on Blu-Ray August 14th.
