Shailene Woodley phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about her latest project, Divergent.

The movie, which is the first in a franchise based off the young adult series by Veronica Roth, takes places in the future where people are divided into factions based on their virtues.

“It’s complicated,” Shailene admits of the plot. “There’s the idea it’s about a girl who switches factions and has to make a choice for herself and then deal with the consequences of her choices. But it also deals with warfare and it deals with one society taking over another society … there are so many different themes and storylines interwoven.”

The actress, who at first joked that she has yet to read the book series, admitted she actually had to go over the pages a few times. “I didn’t know what to expect and I found all of the different storylines so important and they have such important parallels to today’s society and I was blown away.”
