I found this interesting article from Women’s Health. I’ve always wondered when is the best and most effective time to start a new workout/diet regime. I thought winter would be a great time to start, but I might not be totally correct…
It’s said that summer bodies are made in the winter, but could the colder months actually be keeping us from shedding the pounds we need to before we slip into our skimpier clothing? Turns out it’s a mixture of things that happen in the winter that keep us from keeping our weight down and energy up. Here’s what’s getting in the way.
- Avoiding going outside – It’s cold, and no one even wants to walk to the gym in the cold.
- Can’t say no to party food – Party food = cheese and booze. Duh!
- Reaching for comfort food when bored – Lack of summer activities can lead to eating for fun inside.
- Mood is on the decline because of earlier sunsets – Less sun = more time inside.
- Sleep schedule is weird – It’s easier to actually feel more tired in the winter, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
So… What to do?! Maybe it’s time to start at-home workouts. You can stay inside, stay warm, but still get a great workout. The hard part will be trying to stay motivated. Or, do what I did and get yourself a personal trainer! They’re great for keeping that fire under your butt that you had when you started. I recommend Logan at the West Alaska Club ;)
